Epidaurus & Mycenae One Day Tour from Athens

1 star 1 star 1 star 1 star 1 star 51 reviews

Explore with this guided one full day trip from Athens to Argolis the remains of the ancient city of Mycenae a major centre of Greek civilization from 1600BC to 1100BC and a world heritage monument.

Depart from our terminal for one day tour via the coastal National highway for the Corinth canal (short stop). After the Corinth Canal, you enter the region of Argolis, land of Homer’s Golden Mycenae, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Dating back to the second century B.C., Mycenae was one of the major centers of Greek civilization and a military stronghold which dominated much of southern Greece . Visit the archaeological site, home to the kingdom of mythical Agamemnon. You will see the Cyclopean Walls, the Lion’s Gate, the Royal Tombs, including Agamemnon Clytemnestra's, and the Treasury of Atreus, a magnificent 14th-century B.C. structure. Time will then be taken for a traditional Greek optional lunch  at a nearby restaurant.   Before lunch an optional stop in a pottery factory. After lunch through ARGOS proceed to Nauplia the first capital of modern Greece with its Venetian fortress of  PALAMIDI and the fortified islet of BOURTZI (short stop).

Continue on to Epidaurus and visit the ancient theatre. The UNESCO’S world heritage listed monument is reputed to be the birthplace of Apollo's son Asklepios, the healer and was the most celebrated healing center of the classical world. Epidaurus is probably most famous for its theatre, one of the best preserved classical Greek buildings and still used today due to its amazing acoustics. The  Argolis (Mycenae - Epidaurus)  day tour returns to Athens in the late afternoon.

I found the day tour to Mycenae and Epidaurus (via the Corinth Canal) to be an excellent day trip ex-Athens. The tour conducted by Keytours was interesting and the guide knowledgeable on all of the sites we visited. The tour bus was very comfortable and the guide provided an interesting commentary as we travelled. I followed this tour up with a visit to the Archaeological Museum in Athens to view the treasures discovered at Mycenae. A great tour which I would highly recommend to those interested in Greek history.

We - a family of four adults - took three tours - one-day tour to Delhi, one-day tour to Mycenae and Epidaurus and a half-day tour to Cape Sounion. We had booked in advance and hotel pick-up and drop facility was helpful. All guides on tour were knowledgeable but the best was one lady who was our guide on the tour to Delphi on 6th May - unfortunately I forgot her name - was outstanding. Her subtle humour and storytelling skills were superb. The only crib was the restaurant that they took us for lunch on the tour to Mycenae and Epidaurus - it was not up to the mark. Bus ride was comfortable and since the peak tourist season was yet to start, our visits did not face much crowd and we could spend time at all importnat locations and sites.

I thoght the tour to Mycenae and Epidaurus was excellent. The guide was interesting and informative and the tour itself was well paced. I would have no hesitation in recommending this tour to anyone with an interest in Greek history

Excellent day out apart from the visit to the pottery! We were picked up and transferred to a very comfortable coach with a careful driver and we were given information on the various places and then given conducted tours with free time at the sites to enjoy the places. Some more time at each would have been preferable, the guide was excellent and very informative, I would highly recommend Keytours for people wanting to see these places without the trial of negotiating Athens traffic. The negative element was the pottery, this was a shed that didn't have people working on making the items which were over priced and not attractive, looked as if the had been imported from China and there were not adequate facilities for the passengers, I can understand your desire to promote Greek goods and give the opportunity to give rural communities business but genuine workshops would have been more interesting. Keytours were excellent and deserve the 5 stars, thankyou for a great trip.

Our tour guide was Intelligent, friendly, and entertaining! She introduced fun and interesting versions of history during the long bus ride which made it pass quickly and also came equipped with pop-up books for emphasis. After traveling 32 days, this was by far our best tour. Thanks!

I absolutely loved this trip, and our guide Katia, who was fantastic. I had learned about Mycenae in art history many years ago, and seeing it was stunning. I heard other people commenting that the views were outstanding and the description of each sight was fantastic, so you really don't need to know about it before you go to the site. It was great to get out of Athens for a day and tour the countryside. I would definitely recommend this tour!!!
